Lastly I did Sharing & Security/Share/Permissions/Added selected
Users/Gave them Full Permissions/Removed the Everyone Account.

On the server share...

SHARING tab | Permissions | Share Permissions | Group or User Names

Make sure Everyone is there and give it FULL (Allow) permissions

(Everyone is the only entry that needs to be present, remove all other
entries).


SECURITY tab | Group or User Names |

Give Users (Domain\Users) FULL Control permissions


Or create a security group, add users to it, add it to the Security tab |
Group or User Names and assign the permission level to the group.

This Client had a simple Peer-to-Peer network with 5 WinXP Pro computers.
The secretary had a folder on her C:\ drive called RDF1, which was shared
to
everyone on the network. It contained all of their Office documents
including
.doc, .xls, .pub, .pdf, .jpg, etc. After I finished setting up the new
Server, and had all of the clients connected to the Domain, I just did a
Cut
& Paste of that folder to my USB stick drive, then to the D:\ drive on the
Server. Lastly I did Sharing & Security/Share/Permissions/Added selected
Users/Gave them Full Permissions/Removed the Everyone Account.

I also tried creating a new Folder on the Server D:\ drive, Shared it, and
copied a few files there..they will not open either?

No matter what, when I go to the Client pc, the Office documents will not
open. For now, they have just copied the xls & doc files they need to her
Client Desktop, which open fine there? (as always, PDF/JPG, etc open up
fine?)

ps: On a previous server install for another client, I first shared his
D:\
drive completely, copied files to new folders, and have never had an
issue?
Could it be that the whole drive must be shared?

Do not try to micro manage permissions in a folder tree. This will drive
you crazy. Keep each user and group permissions on a top level folder,
and
do not change them to different users / groups in sub folders.

Second, you did not say anything about "migration" in your initial post.
What sort of migration did you do?

the Mapped Drive letter option looks interesting as well. (As long as

Mapped Drive stays connected..) ps: Have you ever used Yosemite BU
software?
I would rather stick with SBS-BU if possible..

Larry, On the Office documents..I'm checking on the permissions..again.
Everything went fairly smooth with the Server migration, and my
customer
was
very happy, until their Shared Documents would not open! I have been
trying
to fix this since last week, no luck so far..will reply back soon.

I recently installed a new Dell 1900 Server with SBS2003 Std, and

Outstanding issues.

Issue #1) Word, Excel & PowerPoint documents will not Open up on a
Client
machine, from the Shared Folder on D:\ on the Server? (I have tried
setting
Security, Permissions, Inheritances, Priviledges, Created a new
Folder,
etc..
Nothing works?) The message at the Client says: "Schedule.xls cannot
be
accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access
a
read-only location. Or, the server on which the presentation is
stored
on
may
not be responding."

These documents were copied over from a Client computer after the
server
was
installed.
- If I copy the document to the local Client, the document opens
fine?
- All other types of documents (PDF, JPG, etc) open up just fine
over
the
Share/Network?


Issue #2) If I run the BU Wizard, it says that the RD1000 (Dell SATA
Disk-based BU/cartidge) is not recognized? But when I go to My
Computer,
there is the 160gig Hard Disk, and I can copy files to it directly
with
no
problem? (It came with Yosemite BU software, maybe it only works
with
them?)
