Re: SBS 2003 can ping but not browse.

I have read in another site to check that "Enable NetBIOS over
TCP/IP" was enabled. It wasn't but I have now enabled it and can view
other computers on the network, view their printers etc. However, the
server is still not appearing in the client computer's view of the
domain and the mapped network drived are still not working. I have
checked that NetBIOS is enabled on the client and it is set to
Default, which does enable it.

Here is the updated ipconfig from the server:

Windows IP Configuration

Remove the router's LAN IP from the DNS servers configured here.

Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.111

and here is the config from a client:

Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : SUE

DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

I recommend you use DHCP from the SBS box instead of the router

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.87.64.7
212.87.64.10

Your DHCP scope must hand out only 192.168.0.111 for DNS to the clients. No
public IPs. This always causes problems with AD. :-)

Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 09 November 2008 08:30:59

There are 2 NICs in the machine but only 1 is enabled. It was like
this when the network was working. Checking the binding order, the
NIC used for the network is at the top of the stack.

As for the version of Windows, according to SysInfo I'm running
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Businesses Server, version
5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790. I believe it is the standard
edition, as there is no mention of Premium anywhere. Also, I have
not installed and ISO software.

SBS Standard or Premium? Does Premium have ISA 2000 or ISA 2004
installed? One or two nics? if two nics is the internal nic on th
etop of the binding order? seen in Network Adavanced/Advanced

Last night I tried to set-up VPN using Routing and Remote Access.
Since setting this up, the computers on the network were unable to
see the server. This morning I disabled the Routing and Remote
Access, and repaired the connection with Server Management >
Internet and E-mail > Repair Internet and E-mail settings. I also
set up Reverse Lookup in the DNS server as that didn't seem to be
there. Now nslookup works with both ipaddress and name.

The state I'm at right now is that:

From the server-
I can ping other computers on the network
net view on the server returns all the shared folders the server
offers Browsing in Windows Explorer shows all the Servers mapped
drives correctly, and I can view the contents.

Browsing through network neighbourhood shows only the server in
the domain, the other computers on the network are missing!

From client computers-
I can ping the server
I can log on to the server

net view to the server name returns no drives
net view to the server ip returns system error 5 access is denied.
Browsing in Windows Explorer I see the drive mappings, but they
cannot be accessed.
Browsing network neighbourhood I see the domain, all the client
computers are visible but not the server.

Any help would be appreciated.
