Does this help?
Reinstall DNS on SBS 2003

The entire company is connected to the same switch, and the entire company
tunnels through the same concentrator.
Nothing changed on either device.
As far as malware, I am pretty sure there are no issues, I will however
install one more utility on top of the Trend Micro, just to make sure.
I have a feeling it has to do with the DNS, so where do I find a good
documentation for a"deep clean"?
I need to backup all my zones or manually record them before I do
anything.
SG, EDNS0 is not enabled.

All 5 of the suspect ones attached to a intermediary switch?

Yes the SBS is the DHCP provider.
I ran the CEICW again, it completed with no errors.
I did reboot the server twice ever since, one was for the security
update last week.
as far as forwarders...
I am pointing to the parent company DNS servers, as I did before the
cleanup, since I need to access their intranet. I have already checked
with them, and they say there are no changes on their end, I do believe
them, they have a reputable sys admin.
The mystery for me is why do the same pool of clients (about 5 machines)
are the only one with the problem? all the rest have no issues what so
ever.
I thinking of wiping one of the culprit machines out and see if it help
rebuilding it.

If the SBS is providing DHCP (you don't say), then I would probably
first run the CEICW again, using the DNS servers that your ISP gave
you. You also did not say if the SBS has been restarted since you made
the changes. Lastly, change the DNS servers to either those Russ gave
you or Verizon's or some other major provider.
Let us know....

Never used WINS, never had any problem. The problems started about 10
days ago after we cleaned some old orphan scripts and policies from
the SYSVOL directory ,and then dleted an old DHCP scope and created a
new one.

Hi Amnon:
SBS? 03 or 08? If SBS, one nic or two? ISA? What brand of
firewall?
Might also help to see the output from ipconfig /all > c:\iptest.txt
from the workstation and the server.
Install and run the sbs bpa, fix whatever it finds.

what about av scans kicking in at the time the slowness starts? Any
other symptoms, such as programs also running more slowly?

I have a weird one:
Random clients encounter very slow browsing.
The only remedy is to log off and back on, the problem is
immediately solved.
Slowness can happen as soon as you log on, or after being logged on
for a while, even if your browser is closed, simply logged on.
This is not a browser related issue, as I tried 4 different browsers
on the same machine when slowness starts, and all 4 will be slow.
The computers are not in the same OU, so I do not think this a
policy related.
Some have static IP, some are DHCP.
We do not use WINS on the network.
Does not happen in a specific time frame, can happen any time.
Exceptions:
Does not seem to happen on the servers but we do not work on any
servers so I cannot verify. Random workstations, some workstations
have never encountered the issue (or did not report it).
