At the moment I'm partial to Dell Poweredge T-300 with SATA drives, a Quad
Xeon processor, at least 8GB of RAM. A RAID1 (2 or 4 drives) or RAID5
controller (3 drives plus a spare). The RAID1 controller supports 2 arrays
which can reduce the hardware costs a bit since SATA drives are cheap (and
big).

Hi All,
We are intending to deploy a SBS 2008 (as it arrived via our Action Pack
Subscription today!) install to replace our externally hosted Exchange
2007 and inhouse Linux fileserver.
Initially this will be for 13 users which all have XP Pro workstations bar
one who has a 64 bit install of Vista Business. Our main requirements are
email, file and print sharing.
Our current hardware is a Dell SC 440 with 1GB RAM so will be retiring
this for some new hardware. As to what I should by I have no idea!
I have a few questions that I would like some advise on from the group:
1) We currently have a install of Squid running as a proxy to log our
users internet access. Does anyone have any suggestions for a suitable
replacement to run on the SBS? I have have experience of ISA before and
feel this is overkill for our needs.
2) What hardware specs do people reccomed for a box to run the 2008 SBS?
3) I like the look of Storageworks Shadow Protect. Is this is simple as
installing to the server and rotating external drives?
4) Does anyone know of a AV compatible with SBS 2008 at present? We have
a subscription of Trend Worry Free Businee Advanced 5.0 to use but I can
not see this as being certified for use with SBS 2008.
Thanks,
Colin
