All above info is very useful and may help with various scenario's
however in my case roaming profile was the culprit. I had my profiles
folder on the root of C: and it grew overnight. I later found out by
using the application mentioned above (treesize pro, which you can
download trial version for free - a great tool) to give me an idea of
which folders are consuming such a large disk space.
Few users were copying large amount of audio files in the My Music
folder as they listen to music using headphone/ipods etc...and roaming
profiles were storing all that info on the server under that users
profile folder. As soon I got them to move the files to local C: (create
a folder on the root of C) and log off and log back in I got my server
hard disk space back.
I hope it might help few who might have this scenario.
