Re: SBS 2000 domain, XP Pro SP2 clients getting NETLOGON error

Good old Server 2000 DC's using RRAS / VPN connections had the tendancy to
act like dual homed domain controllers.

Check the DNS entries for the SRV records and see if they are for the
internal NIC IP or RRAS

Hello, Marina!

Which color M&M? Oh, not THAT kind of M&M! Never mind!

This is an inherited network and has its internal domain the same as
external, except for the "CORP" at the beginning of the domain. I am
confused by the "DNS Suffix Search List" references. I would have
expected only one name. I have no other SBS 2000 domains to which I
can compare settings. All of my SBS 2003 domains have only the
internal non-related-to-external domain name listed under the "DNS
Suffix Search List" references.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NETLOGON
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5719
Date: 10/24/2008
Time: 12:37:48 AM
User: N/A
Computer: Comp-3
Description:
No Domain Controller is available for domain CORP due to the
following: There are currently no logon servers available to
service the logon request. .
Make sure that the computer is connected to the network and try
again. If the problem persists, please contact your domain
administrator. The network seems to work fine, but my client has asked
why these
errors occur. I have searched MS and EventID.net and tried several
things. Nothing on the network has a Gigabit NIC in it, and the XP
Pro SP2 workstations have various NIC brands.

DNS and WINS on server and workstations points only to the SBS 2000
server, ping by name, FQDN, or IP all work fine.

I can't get rid of the error!
