Re: Blank Performance Reports

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Just to round this out, here's the event logged after the successful run of the wsus database cleanup tool from Codeplex. Impressive, and with the ability to schedule this task I think we have a chance of keeping the WSUS database in check.

Good work Bill.

The upgrade itself will have cleaned things up considerably. Now I think it's a matter of declining driver updates, as well as regular maintenance on the WSUS database. Scheduling that codeplex tool will hopefully make this an automated task.

What I did, Les, was to upgrade WSUS 2.0 to 3.0 SP1 and then ran the tools to which you so kindly led me.
Performance is much improved and I saw squillions of drivers being "Declinged". WSUS Admin still shows over 22,000 updates, though. This can't be true.
The reason I was trying to reduce the WSUS database is that Perfomance Reports were blank, almost certainly due to this. These reports are working again.

Thanks again,
Bill

Could the number of updates be the issue? There are 22,816 in total and 21,243 approved! I don't know how this happened. New server commissioned a bit over a month ago. All workstations had been up to date using WSUS on old server. How can I kill the updates that are flagged as "not needed"? I can't see how to do this in WSUS 2.0.

What's the specs of this machine?

New information on this issue. I can view the Performance Report in IE at http://localhost/monitoring/perf.aspx, after which the report appears in Server Management. It took about 30-45 seconds before the report appeared in IE.

Could this be a timeout issue ?

Any more ideas, anyone?

This is an ongoing issue with an SBS 2003 R2 Standard Edition server.

There is a blank window in Server Management and email. When the report fires, this appears in the Application Log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ServerStatusReports
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1
Date: 16/10/2008
Time: 11:14:30 AM
User: N/A
Computer: HPS001
Description:
Server Status Report:
URL: http://localhost/monitoring/perf.aspx?reportMode=0
Error Message: General network error. Check your network documentation.
Stack Trace: at usage.globalFn.connectDataSource(Boolean pingFirst)
at usage.frmPerf.renderReportWorker()
at usage.frmPerf.renderReport()

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I know there is a known issue with these reports and WSUS and I have unchecked driver synchronization.

I have also cleaned up the WSUS database uisng wsusutil and wsusdebugtool.

Anyone here got any ideas on how to resolve this PIA?
