SO, are you using the Verizon mail server as relay (smarthost) or not? If
using a smarthost you should have 1 outgoing SMTP queue, to it. If
delivering via DNS you will have a queue for each domain you are sending to.
Please note that I do not ask questions purely in order to improve my typing
skills.

I forgot to mention that there is a large number os outbound emails in the
queue. And users say when they send emails, say on Friday, it came back
today
saying it was delayed and never went through. They are all still sitting
in
the queue. Inbound emails work just fine just the outbound is suddenly
exhibiting this problem. We use Verizon Business DSL and there has been no
issues for about a year and half till now. There are no NDRs either just
the
Delay message and the messages just sitting gin the queue and adding up
since
5th of thie month. The recipients cannot be the ones with internet outage,
we
are talking almost 150 emails so far just sitting in the queue and they
are
all addressed to almost forty clients including another domain of ours
that I
am 2000% sure is up and running.

have a look at your outbound SMTP queues, if you have a large number of
items or a moderate number of simultaneous large items they may be timing
out during transmission. If so, the items may eventually succeed as the
random variation to retry interval allows each queue to send messages
before
timing out. You can reduce the number of simultaneous connections to
allow
(say, 3) transmissions and the queues will eventually clear themselves.
Verizon 'home' or 'business' connection? If 'home' they may be blocking
outgoing SMTP connections to all but the Verizon mail server. If this is
the
case the items will eventually fail and return an NDR. This condition can
be
'worked around' by using the Verizon mail server(s) as 'smart host'
(relay)
when running the CEICW.

Hello All,
I have an SBS 2003 Premium R2 running well for about a year and half
now.
I
am currently having outbound SMTP email issues, not just for one domain
but
for ALL outbound emails regardless of domain. I have called our ISP
(Verizon)
to set the Reverse DNS for our server but they said it may take 24 - 48
hrs
to take effect. But I am not sure if that is the problem though since
it
has
worked for about 1 and half years till now. Some users get the
following
error message;
"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed."
Any ideas?
Thanx.
