Re: POP3 connector just stops retrieving mail

I've been seeing the pop3 connector choking on malformed headers lately...it really didn't like the fexed/ups.zip viruses that were going around, for example. I doubt you'll be able to do much.

So, out of curiosity, why can't you host your own mail until January? On a technical level, the switch takes less than 10 minutes to implement and then there is just the DNS propogation time. You could be switched by Monday...

....and THREE YEARS?!? Wow man, you are lucky you've been going this long. I assume you know the pop3 connector was never meant to be used in this fashion since you are making the switch, so...really...this has been a long time brewing. I wish I had better news for ya.

Hello all,

I have a fully patched SBS 2003 box running the POP3 connector to retrieve
email for 8 external email boxes. It has been running reliably for over 3
years now. Of course, now that we are preparing to switch over to hosting our
own SMTP email, the POP3 connector starts giving trouble (for various
reasons, it will be at least January until we can switch over to SMTP).

So, the problem is that occasionally (once or twice a week) the POP3
connector just stops retrieving email. The POP3 connector service continues
to run, but records NOTHING in the Event Viewer (logging is turned up to
Max). No attempts, no parsing, no deliveries, nothing. What DOES get recorded
in Event Viewer are many dozens of SMTP event no. 7002's and Connection
Manager 4000, 4006, and 4007's. When the POP3 connector service is restarted,
everything goes back to normal - until the next time.

Any ideas on what might be happening and how to stop it?

Thanks in advance,

-Bruce D
