Re: "An invalid server name was specified"

Hello,

Thank you for posting here and Larry's input.

According to your description, I understand that:

You receive the error message "An invalidserver name was specified" when
attempting to connect a computer in RWW.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Suggestions:
=======================
First of all, please follow the post that Larry mentioned to check whether
there is any 3rd party antispyware on the remote computer and delete the
related Active X registry.

To isolate the issue from any 3rd party antispyware, please perform a clean
boot on the remote computer to see if the issue is related to any
third-party application:

a) Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
b) Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
c) Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
d) Click OK and choose Restart.
e) After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
f) If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.

1. Moreover, if your SBS Server has applied Windows 2003 Service Pack 2,
please also refer to the steps in the article below:

er-applying-windows-server-2003-sp2-on-sbs.aspx

2. On the client computer, please make sure the Microsoft Terminal Services
Client Control ActiveX control is enabled in the IE. To verify the
incorrect configuration in the IE:

a) Start Internet Explorer.
b) Visit the Web site that is causing this problem.
c) If you are using Windows Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps:
I. On the Tools menu, point to Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or
Disable Add-ons. The Manage Add-ons dialog box appears.
II. In the list of add-ins, search for the Microsoft Terminal Services
Client Control ActiveX control or for the Microsoft RDP client Control
ActiveX control.
III. Click the control, click Enable, and then click OK to close the
Manage Add-ons dialog box.

If you are using Internet Explorer 6, follow these steps:
I. On the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons. The Manage Add-ons dialog
box appears.
II. In the list of add-ins, search for the Microsoft Terminal Services
Client Control ActiveX control or for the Microsoft RDP client Control
ActiveX control.
III. Click the control, click Enable, and then click OK to close the
Manage Add-ons dialog box.

d) Add the site to your Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer.
e) Restart Internet Explorer.
f) Try to connect to the remote computer.

If you are not sure about the IE configuration, you can simply reset the
Internet Explorer Settings in the Internet Option--->Advanced tab.

3. If the issue persists, you may refer to the following steps to download
the Active X control and reapply it to check .

Enable the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" feature and security
settings in Internet Explorer on the client and see if this helps:
===============
a) Enable the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" feature:

I. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
II. Click the Advanced tab. Scroll to the bottom, in the Security section,
click to check the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" check box.
III. Click OK. Restart IE and have a test.

b) Set the IE security setting as follows:

I. Open Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
II. Click the Security tab, select Internet and click Custom Level.
III. Select Prompt or Enable for Download signed ActiveX controls and
Download unsigned ActiveX controls.
IV. Click OK. Restart IE and have a test.

Then, try to visit RWW and then check if the ActiveX control package can be
downloaded or not.

If the issue still occurs after downloading, try the steps below:
==================
a) Click Start-> Run type Regedit Then open register list.
b) Follow the below operation 1 or operation 2 to modify the register:
ClsID: {7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D6AABA6D3850}

value to 4

k) Click OK button.

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the steps above, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

Information needed:
==================
1. How it works when a internal client computer attempts to connect a
computer via RWW?

2. Does the issue only happen on those computers that used to connect the
computer in RWW? How about the remote computers that connect the RWW in the
first time?

Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to let me know.

Miles Li
