Hi,
We are currenlty running a SBS 2003 server. We are having some
performance issues (running out of space on the c drive) and are
looking to move some applications to a new server. Can I add a SBS
2003 R2 server or does it have to be a 2003 server?
You can add an R2 server or a even a 2008 server as a member without any
issues. If they're going to be domain controllers you'd first need to extend
the schema.
As for "move some applications to the new server", the SBS ones must remain
in place. You can change your user home directories and 'my documents'
redirection as well as any third party 'applications', print services to a
new server. You can also move WINS and make the second server a *second* DNS
server, but that's about it. DHCP & Sharepoint should stay on SBS and
Exchange, SQL and ISA (if premium) *must* stay on the SBS server (licensing
and functionality).
So, you can also move some things off the "C" partition to another perhaps
more performing partition and aleviate that issue even without a second
server and SW license.
More to the point, what exactly are your performace issues?
