Re-routing Internet Traffic Connected To SBS 2003 Through A VPN Co

When your Windows XP Professional [Desktop / Laptop] is connected to a SBS
2003 through a VPN connection where is the Internet traffic routed?
ISA Server is not installed on this particular configuration.
Is the Internet traffic routed to the SBS and then back out to the Internet
through the SBS Internet connection? Or is the Internet traffic routed
directly through the Internet connection on the local desktop / laptop as if
it was not connected to a VPN?
How can I determine what is actually happening in a particular setup
configuration?
I would prefer the regular Internet traffic to be routed directly through
the local Internet connection and not go through the VPN connection. How can
I change / force all unrelated SBS network traffic route directly through the
local Internet connection?
Thank you, Ed Podowski
