Typically if you call and reference a specific KB they don't charge, but they still may initially require a credit card to start...then in the end, they will tell you whether or not they plan to charge

Hi I just started a new job.
When I arrived they have a server that is inaccessable.
They have backup Exec 10d
They tried to install a transition pack about 6 months ago.
After the install and reboot.
it now asks to activate windows.
When activation is tried online you get message stating activation period
has expired.
When telephone activation is clicked. No installation Id is generated.
I have tracked down the problem and I belive it is this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914990
Where do I go from here.
Do I actually have to call microsoft. Is there a cost associated with it?
They have moved most services off this to a new server.
But still 1 or 2 vital things running on it. And they run fine.
But I can't log in to the system so this makes this my job much more
difficult.
I was told the previous Sys Admin tried working with microsoft over the
phone for 2 weeks. Don't know when that was though.
Probably just do a reinstall eventually.
But I wanted to check other options before going that route.
