Re: Outlook Synchronization error over VPN

When you say your wife can VPN into your server, you're referring to the same SBS server you're unable to connect to, and she's connecting from the same remote network, right? So that rules out both everything on the SBS side, and anything on your home network, and seems to confine the problem to your one laptop?

In that case, I'd try recreating the VPN connection on your laptop from scratch. Verify that you have access to any other resource you'd expect over the VPN. Check firewall settings on the laptop - the OneCare firewall and some others block outbound VPN by default, so you might want to turn on the logging for any firewall on the laptop to make sure it's not that.

I'd also test this from a wired connection on your home network. I've had some inexplicably weird issues with wireless once in a while - I've got two separate wireless networks here, and I had a laptop that would connect to one but not the other. I ended up having to replace the wireless NIC in the laptop.

As a last resort, you could try recreating the Outlook profile on the laptop. If that works, it'll be pretty hard to explain why it formerly worked on the wired LAN, but it's a quick and simple thing to try.

I absolutely agree with SteveB about Outlook Anywhere - it's a thing of beauty. I'm assuming the VPN is because you use it for other things as well as Outlook, but I've set up Outlook Anywhere on my laptop anyway, just for times when I only need access to e-mail.

I have an odd problem. I did a search and could not find the answer and I apologize if this has been asked before.

I have a laptop running XP SP2. I have a server running SBS 2003.

There was a time when I could VPN in to my server fine from my laptop and syncronize my outlook on the laptop with my server.

I haven't done a synchronization over VPN for a while but when I tried yesterday, outlook just kept saying "connecting.." and never connected. After a time I get kicked out and told my username or password was incorrect.

I can hook my laptop to my ethernet cable at work and syncronize my laptop outlook with no problems.

I have a desktop at home that VPN's into my server over wifi and that synchronizes fine.

My wife can VPN into our server and synchronize her account fine.

Problem arises when I come home. I connect wirelessly and VPN into my server. I run the same outlook on the same laptop and when I hit "syncronize" on my laptop, I get "connecting" but nothing after that. I have had this working on this laptop before and for some reason it won't work any longer.

Thanks for any help you can give me to help solve this
