A couple of more important distinctions:
a) \connectcomputer allows the migration of an existing user profile to a domain profile, if that matters.
b) the computer is placed in the correct AD OU, where GP will be applied as intended.
There are a few others as well. I guess the question is why *not* use the \connectcomputer method?

Hi,
There isnt that much difference. You dont get the applications installed
automatically. And the user profile from the standalone user account isnt
migrated to the Domain account. And the computername will be added as a new
computer, not as the one that you set up when you added the users.
Other than that there isnt a difference.
I think its more a case of personal preferance. I very rarely use the
Connect Computer wizard with new machines, but i do with existing ones.

I've often wondered....
When joining a Vista client (or even an XP come to that) what difference
would it make if I didn't use ConnectComputer and, instead, used the Network
Identification Wizard under the client's 'System Properties'?
My Vista client already has a copy of Office 2007 (including Outlook).
