RE: Endpoint Mapper issues

Hello,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand the issue is that:

You are using the using Business Contacts manager (BCM) for Outlook 2003 in
a Windows Small Business 2003 environment. An error "There are no more
endpoints available from the endpoint mapper" is prompted when you attempt
to share the BCM database.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Explanations:
====================

The "No more endpoints available" error message indicates that the RPC
Endpoint Mapper was not able to use a port greater than 1024 for a service
that runs over RPC. RPC can use ports up to 65535. By default, all versions
of Windows use only ports 1024-5000. Generally, we need to ensure that the
firewall we use has opened ports up to 65535. The error "Windows Firewall
cannot run because another program or service is running that might use the
network address translation component (Ipnat.sys)" may occur if you already
have another firewall installed such as RRAS.

I'd like to know whether you installed Outlook and BCM on the SBS server.
If yes, we don't recommend installing Outlook on the SBS server because the
outlook (MAPI client) may have conflicts with the Exchange server that is
also using MAPI. Furthermore, we cannot enable the Internet Connection
Firewall (ICF) because several components such as IPNAT.sys are used by the
RRAS (ISA) for VPN connections to the SBS network. The ICF couldn't be
enabled while the RRAS is enabled. However, the Windows Firewall/ICS
services need to be started to share BCM database. As a result, BCM
database is not supported to be installed on a SBS server.
In addition, installing Outlook on a computer where Exchange Server is
installed can cause serious problems for the Exchange Server computer. See
the following Knowledge Base (KB) article:
266418 Microsoft does not support installing Exchange Server
components and Outlook on the same computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;266418

As the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 831747 mentioned, we highly
recommend removing the database from the server and running it on a SBS
domain joined Windows XP machine to bring in a solution. But please do not
place BCM, Outlook or the BCM database on a server operating system.

If you didn't install the Outlook and BCM on the SBS server, please help to
answer the following question for further investigation:

Information needed:
====================

1. Which Windows operating system are Outlook and BCM installed on?
2. Are there any other problems if you install BCM on anther computer? Does
the issue persists?

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

Best regards,

Miles Li
