Thank you Miles Li for your reply.
I think i'm beginning to understand how this roaming profile works. Thanks
to your info.
However, in reply to your instruction in regards to the issue of "Access is
denied", the following is the error messages that i gather from the
problematic client PC.
1. EventID: 5, Source: offline files
Description: A portion of the offline files cache has become corrupted.
Restart the computer to clean up the cache.
My question in relating to the above event is How do i clean it up? can i
use UPHClean (download from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en)
on every problematic PC or just on the server itself.
2. EventID: 107, source: folder redirection
Description: Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents... from
\\myserver\users\user.test\my documents to \\myserver\users\michael\my
documents... cannot create a file when the file already exists
My question is whether it is wrong to check "redirect all my documents to
the default shared folder for user ...". At the moment, that's what has been
checked all along.
3. EventID: 1085, source: userenv
Description: The group policy client-side extension folder redirection
failed to execute
4. EventID: 1521, source: userenv
Description: Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming
profile... possible causes of this error include network problems or
insufficient security rights
I have set permission to everyone with full control on and NTFS to
administrators, systems and users with full control. However i have Creator
Owner in the list - not sure if i should remove it from the list. At the
moment, it's set with special permission only.
So after having done all the setting as above, i don't know why it hasn't
fixed up the security rights yet. Need your advice on this?
Thank you in advance

Hello,.
Question 1:
As I motioned in my last post, when a user log on to a computer, system
first enumerate the subkeys in the following path:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\<User_SID>]
For each user, a unique user SID is listed under the ProfileList key where
there is a value named "profileimagepath". The value "profileimagepath"
indicates the profile folder path for that user. However, when the SID is
different for user accounts that has same account name, Michael.doamin and
Michael.doamin.000 will be created.
In this issue, I suspects that there is insufficient permission on the
profile folder in the shared folder for Michael. Then the system will try
to create a new profile folder named Michael. However, the folder with that
name already exists, Michael.domain will be created.
Question 2:
The local profile will not be used even when there is nothing in the
roaming profile. However, please note when you once log onto the computer
with the roaming profile, a local copy of the profile will be saved locally.
Question 3:
Please double check the share permission and the NTFS permission on the
shared folder that holds the roaming profile. You may perform clean boot to
remove effect of third-party services to have a test.
a) Click Start | Run and type "msconfig" (no quotes) and press enter.
b) Click services from the tab, check the check box of "Hide All Microsoft
Service", and then click "Disable all"
c) Click Startup from the tab, then click "Disable all"
d) Restart the computer and check how it works.
To further troubleshoot the issue, you can search the Application Event log
on the problematic clients that may indicates roaming profile loading
error. If possible, you can export the Event logs to *.evt file and send to
me at :Miles Li <mailto:v-mileli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to let me know.
Best regards,
Miles Li
