Re: XP WebDav Mapped Drives

Not a problem. That is what i thought anyway.

We are trying to migrate a lot of our hosted clients to RPC/HTTP and Webdav rather than VPN's, and im looking to make some simple scripts/apps that can perform the required registry changes on Vista whilst still being very simple to use.

Thanks for the help Cliff!

Hmm, as I said, the "add network place" wizard works. So the question is, does it *need* to be a drive letter? The problem is that the redirector in XP doesn't support encrypted data (something I swore was getting fixed in XP SP3.) But I've been using Vista for development for almost a year now (before XP3) so I don't have a machine to test on and see what the problem might be.

Vista supports https with net use, and XP supports https in the shell which is how I used https hosted webdav sites back when I was on XP. But if the XP redirector is still encryption unaware (which it sounds like it is) then you really can't work around it. You either deal with the XP limitation and use the shell to access WebDAV folders, or you purchase a third-party program that supports https drive maps. Sorry, wish I had a better answer.

As of XP SP3, it should work (although I admittedly have not tested it myself.) But as always (even for http connections) the "webclient" service must be running.

Worst case, you can always go through the "Add network place" wizard, which I *have* done and has worked for https webdav connections since XP RTM.

Hi Cliff,

Apologies for the wrong group. Hoped someone here might have tried this.

net use * https:// doesnt work in XP. Thats why i posted.

You get a "Network Path cannot be found" in xp.

Matt

1) This isn't an SBS question. Even remotely. Please *TRY* to keep your questions on point.
2) Vista and XP are both very easy.

net use * https://blahblah/blah
