RE: Issue with user profile folders and outlook

Hi Miles Li,

Thank you for your reply and the information.

However, I have three questions to ask.

First question is i wonder why another profile folder is created when the
profile folder for user Michael exists there already. Should it not use the
one already exists? I'm confused here. It'd be a nightmare if it keeps on
generating another one after another profile folder.

I did a bit of test here and found if i remove the path from the user's
profile on the server for the roaming profile purpose, i notice it uses the
same local profile without creating another one after logging on and off a
few times. This indicates either it's me that did not set the roaming profile
properly or that's how the roaming profile works. From the article you
recommended, i learnt that if the local profile already exists long before
the roaming profile is set up for users, then the local profile will be
merged with the roaming profile when the user logs onto the computer.

Second question on this is that should it not first use the local profile
given that there is nothing in the roaming profile because it's just been set
up.

My last questions is that i have created the shared user folder called
"Profile" and set permission to everyone. I got "Access is denied" when i
clicked on the profile folder of Michael on the server. I wonder why the
access is denied when the "Profile" folder is set to full control to everyone
under permission.

Thank you in advance

Hello,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, my understanding is that:

You want to know the reason why the profile folders username,
username.domain and ussername.domain.000 are created for the same user.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Explanations:
==================================
No, .000 does not indicate a temporary profile folder is created. When a
user logs onto a computer, system will distinguish the user according to
its SID instead of the account name. When a profile folder with the same
name already exists system will try to append suffix (such as .domain and
.000) to the user accoutn name. In the following scenarios, username.domain
and username.domain.000 profiles will be created:

1. When a user named "michael" attempt to log onto the computer first time,
if a profile folder named "michael" (that has the different SID) already
exists a folder named "michael.domain" will be created.
2. When a user named "michael" attempt to log onto the computer first time,
if a profile folder named "michael.domain" (that has the different SID)
already exists a folder named "michael.domain.000" will be created
3. Later on, michael.domain.001, michael.domain.002, michael.domain.003
will be created as the user profile.

To clear understanding the issue, could you please answer following
questions?

Information needed:
==================================
1. In the process of creating customized roaming profile, where you log
with normal user? the SBS server or clients?
2. After creating the customized roaming profile and sharing it for users,
do you catch the michael.companyserver and michael.companyserver.000
profiles on the client computer?
3.Can you indentify the network connectivity between the server that shares
the roaming folder and the clients? Can you access the roaming profile
share on clients?
