Cris…

Thanks for the help. I picked up a D-Link EBR-2310 router and a D-Link
DSS-16+ switch. Other than shutting down everything before I start
unplugging old stuff and plugging in new stuff, do you have any suggestions
as to procedure (such as order of turning back on, configuring, etc.)? Also,
any comment on the two pieces of equipment? I'll probably do this on
Saturday morning.

Since you're not doing wireless...no reason to get a wireless router

Here is an option to throw out

If you want a unit that goes to the next level and does Unified Threat Managment (virus, spam, etc.) before it gets to the server as well
Then you can go with this

And there are options in between

Cris...

I'm not opposed to moving to a business class device - the MN-100 was in
place when I started working here. However, neither our server nor our
workstations have any critical data, client info, etc., so we don't need Fort
Knox either. Bring on the recommendations.

Also, based upon my description of the internet problem, do you agree that
it's probably the MN-100? Thanks.

Understand that the MN-100 is a home (consumer) class (as opposed to a business class) device and provides only the most basic firewall protection.
Anything you would purchase in the same price only provides the same level of protection...very minimal despite it including the words firewall in its list of features

If you are willing to accept those risks..then you can go to best buy and get just about any router.

If you want higher end true firewall protection...then let us know and we can make some recommendations there too

We have one NIC in the server and no wireless. There are four wired
workstations running WinXP Pro plus the server. Main function is Outlook.

Well, there are lots of options

Can you be more exact about what it does for you now? How many nics in the server...whose using the wireless connection and for what?
