Server upgrade

I have a client with SBS2003 Standard, no service packs installed on an older
Dell Power Edge 2400 Server with 15 user license.
I will be upgrading to a New Dell Power Edge 2900 and will be installing
SBS2003 Standard R2. The only thing I need to retain is email and contacts
for 4 users. Instead of installing all service packs to bring the current
server up to date then performing a server migration or Jeff’s Swing
Migration, can I just export the clients email and contacts using Exmerge or
export to a PST file on each of the 4 clients workstations. Then setup the
new SBS2003 Standard R2 using the same domain name and users and password,
then re-run the connect computer wizard on each computer, then import the
email and contacts.
