Do you download all MS Patches?
I think the longest I've seen is 30min?

I manage a SBS 2003 R2 server where WSUS is set to handle approvals
but does not download the patches. Having the problem with monitoring
reports sending 401's, I tried the suggestion above. After somewhere
between 6 and 8 hours, the WSUS MMC said it had been disconnected. I
tried again, but just got the same result faster (in a few hours).

However, this morning I got my first complete monitoring report in a
week!
