Re: Connectin a workstation to SBS Server from another building.

Fibre is not as expensive as you think. Two transceivers at $200 apiece http://www.maxtechdirect.com/ssproduct.asp?pf_id=10015848 leaves only the conduit and cable which is a lot cheaper than you might think. A high quality Wireless solution is likely to cost just as much and definitely not be as fast.

Thanks for all of the input.......It's giving me some options.
I've thought about having separate cable internet access with RWW access - but it's a warehouse and don't want that staff person running on the server directly. We currently have 4 workstations in the shop that are in use most of the time.

There is a direct line of site between the two buildings- but not necessarily between two windows - the warehouse is slightly downhill from the shop. I will get an accurate measurement of the distance.

I'm trying to balance reliability, security and cost. If we go with underground cable I assume it would have to be buried below the frost line - New York state.

These look pretty good Kerry. About $170 each from what I could find. What about placement? Where is the best place to put them (protected location on roof, inside building, etc.)?

Anyone have recommendations for connecting a PC in a warehouse that is 150 yards away from the main building that contains the SBS server and 4 workstations?

Is wireless reliable, secure? Anyone done this reliably? Should an underground conduit be put in?

thanks

I've used wireless to connect two offices a couple of blocks apart. Make sure you use business class equipment designed for this. With the right equipment it works great. I used two of these.

It's been in place almost a year with no down time.
