Hello Liam,
Thank you for your post. This is Robbin Meng, and it is my pleasure to work
with you on this issue!
Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:
The mail flow on your SBS server is abnormal for outbound emails. When user
send out emails, they are being stuck in the SMTP queues and currently
there are 33 mails from 3 hours ago. The queue show retry or queued even
after you have run CEICW wizard.
If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.
This issue may be caused by many factors, before we go further, I would
like to confirm with you about the following questions:
1. Does this issue only occur to certain external email domain(e.g. only
queue when users send to hotmail.com) or occurs to all external email
domains?
2. Did users get Delay email notification or NDR(non deliver report)letter
when mails are being queued?
3. Can you let me know the queue name where mails are being stuck?
4. What changed have you made on the SBS server recently that may caused
this issue?
Please let me know the details, thank you.
Based on the current situation, I'd like to provide you with the following
suggestions:
First, if you have any anti-virus and anti-spam software installed on the
SBS server, please temporarily disable all of them and then have a test.
Suggestion 1: Check SMTP virtual server and SMTP connector configuration.
If the issue only occur to certain external email domain and not all
external domains, it is possible a network connection issue with the
destination mail server. If so, you can may contact the destination. Also,
please check the SMTP connector on the server to see if it is configured
correctly.
However, if the issue occurs to all outbound mails, let's go on with
following steps.
Suggestion 2: Enable Diagnostics Logging
You can use Diagnostics Logging to determine the cause of a transport
issue. To turn on Diagnostics Logging on the MSExchangeTransport service,
follow these steps:
1. Start Exchange System Manager.
2. Expand Servers, right-click Your_ Server_Name, and then click
Properties.
3. Click the Diagnostics Logging tab, and then click MSExchangeTransport
under Services.
4. Under Categories, click the category that you want to log.
5. Under Logging Level, click the appropriate logging level (here we use
Maximum)for the issue that you are investigating:
o None
o Minimum
o Medium
o Maximum
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each category that you want to log. After that,
the detailed information will be recorded in the Event log files.
