Did this get upgraded from MSDE to SQL 2005 express edition?

I believe so but not on purpose.  It must have been via an automatic
update?  How can I tell?

Correct. It is 2005 Express.

I've got 10 servers that all have this same issue. There must be
others that have experienced this with Symantec and WSUS?
