Re: Re:Connection

Hi T.Mthimkulu,

Thank you for your update.

Now, I know you host a web site on your ISP. The web site need to connect a
SQL server database. You want to know you'd better host the SQL server on
your SBS or ISP.

The answer is ISP. You need to host the SQL server in ISP together with the
web site. It is safer and faster.

If you host the SQL server on your SBS, you need to publish the SQL server
to Internet, and make the web site to access the published SQL server. It
is very dangerous for the SQL server. Everyone in the Internet could try to
access it. Meanwhile, SQL server access thru Internet is very slow, and
often disconnected.

Therefore, you need to host the SQL server on the ISP, together with your
web site.

I hope these will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu (MSFT)

Hi Terence Liu,

Ok,thanks for letting me know,as I am getting to grips with this
application.

Yes,we run an SBS 2003 premium which has 2 NICs.One runs externally
through
an ADSL modem router and another one is on the internal network. We are
interested in accessing the SQL server database.

Servlets are java programs that are used to service clients ,by taking
client requests and sending back responses.

I would like to know what you would recommend as the best form of
communication from a website (which is hosted by an ISP) to a
database.Would
the information have to be stored on the web/ISP's space,or on a SBS?

Thanks

T.Mthimkulu

Do
you have single NIC or double on SBS?

2. What is servlets?

3. Do you have router or firewall at upstream the SBS?

3. What service on SBS do you want to access?

Hi,

Would I be able to connect from a website to a small business server
by
using servlets? If I did, what parameters would I have to declare in
order
to initialise the connection?

Thanks
