Re: Slightly OT: Are you going for SBS 2008 this year, or will you wait?

You are right. That's the reason for the SP1 on the label. I attended a partner TS2 event a couple of weeks ago and that's where I found out that the label had the SP1 on it.

If you look at SBS 2008 RC0, under 'System' in the 'Control Panel' it shows the version as 'Windows Server Small Business Server Service Pack 1' :-)

It seems that since the product has gone through vigorous testing, any kind of fixes that usually take place in SP1, are already in it.

I ask this since I remember the old adage "never buy a new product until the first Servcie Pack is out"; however, I wonder if this is still true - at least for this product. Personally I'm leaning toward buying it this year or right after the new year (new budget cycle).

Just curious what the feeling is among the readers/participants of this newsgroup.

I believe that MS have said that, since Server 2008 and Vista share so much codebase that Server 2008 will launch as SP1 and the first SP released for Server 2008 will be SP2 (concurrent with SP2 for Vista).

I think that makes a lot of sense since the SP names are just labels and it is easier if we talk about both Server 2008 and Vista being at SP1 (or SP2) together.

Just what I heard, can't recall where, but it might have been at Launch Wave 08?
