I ask this since I remember the old adage "never buy a new product until the
first Servcie Pack is out"; however, I wonder if this is still true - at

That old adage never expires.
We buy SA, but continue to install until after the first SP or at LEAST
6 Months has passed and no major glitches are being seen.
In the case of Vista, it wasn't until SP1 that it was worth using for
most hardware that is more than 2 years old.
Exchange 2007 offers a lot, but most customers don't use half of what
2003 does....
