Hello steve,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you get error 1001 and
1058 on SBS after you reinstall ASP.NET. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, there are many factors may cause this issue. We may
need more time to perform troubleshooting steps. I suggest we try the
following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:
1. Please install the following hotfix or windows server 2003 sp2 on your
SBS:
Programs that request lots of contiguous memory may fail after you install
security update 921883 (MS06-040) on a Windows Server 2003 Service Pack
1-based computer or a Windows XP Professional x64 Edition-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924054
2. Please make sure Server Service is running on the SBS server.
3. Check the SBS internal NIC protocols settings:
a. Open the Properties page of the internal NIC on SBS Server.
b. In General tab, under "This connection uses the following items", make
sure that "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is checked. If
it is ready ticked, please uncheck it, click OK. Then, re-tick it again.
4. This issue may occur when a procedure to repair the Group Policy objects
(GPO) and the GPO references in the Active Directory directory service on a
Windows Small Business Server 2003 computer has not been performed or was
not successful. This kind of procedure is typically performed by the
original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in a production environment where
multiple installations of Windows Small Business Server 2003 are performed.
Please perform the steps in the following KB:
Event 1030 and event 1058 may be logged, and you may not be able to start
the Group Policy snap-in on your Windows Small Business Server 2003 computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888943
5. This issue may occur if you assign incorrect permissions to the
%SystemRoot%\Winnt\Sysvol folder or if you assign incorrect groups to
Bypass Traverse Checking User Rights Assignment. Additionally, this issue
may occur if the sysvol share permissions are too restrictive. Please
perform the steps in the following KB:
Event ID 1000, 1001 is logged every five minutes in the Application event
log
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290647
6. These issues occur if the computers that are on your network cannot
connect to certain Group Policy objects. Specifically, these objects are in
the Sysvol folders on your network's domain controllers. Please perform the
steps in the following KB:
Userenv errors occur and events are logged after you apply Group Policy to
computers that are running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887303
If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the steps above, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:
Gather MPS network report on SBS:
a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.
c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu (MSFT)

I recently had to reinstall all the .net versions due to a corruption. All
well except for 1 issue. Even viewer show the following errors from timeto
time:cal.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: ServerStatusReports
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 6/23/2008
Time: 9:55:07 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER-SBS
Description:
A fatal error occurred either while synchronizing the Update Services
computer groups with Group Policy or while moving the Unassigned Computers
group. To see a detailed log, create a file called SyncSecurity.Log in
%SBSProgramDir%\Support, and then run SyncSecurity.exe again. The error
returned was: The network path was not found.
And
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1058
Date: 6/23/2008
Time: 9:55:07 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: SERVER-SBS
Description:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO
cn={522318A3-D1CA-474A-9CE4-C51991B5848B},cn=policies,cn=system,DC=xx,DC=lo
The file must be present at the location\gpt.ini>.
<\\xx.local\SysVol\xx.local\Policies\{522318A3-D1CA-474A-9CE4-C51991B5848B}
(Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, issues
either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. ).
Group Policy processing aborted.
Traditional fixes .. gpudate, etc have not worked. Im betting it is the
.net 2.xx needing the reset of acl's ... but I dont want to create new
by running this command.
Suggestions?
