Hello Fred,
Thank you for posting here. Let's also thank Larry for the good input.
According to your description, I understand that you want to know how to
join Vista client to SBS domain and how to enable roaming profile for
users. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me
know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
1. To enable My Documents Redirection, please open Server Management
console on SBS, extend to Users node, click Configure My Documents
Redirection link in right pane.
Note: The default shared folder for users on SBS locates in C:\Users Shared
Folders\username. It will be created when you run the Add User Wizard to
create the user account.
2. To join the Vista client to SBS domain, we also need to run the
connectcomputer wizard (http://SBSname/connectcomputer/). However, before
we join Vista client thru connectcomputer wizard, please ensure you had
installed the following hotfix on SBS:
Windows Small Business Server 2003: Windows Vista and Outlook 2007
compatibility update
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926505
3. To enable roaming profile for user account, please open Server
Management console on SBS, extend to Users node, double click the user
account, select Profile tab, in the Profile path box, input the shared
folder path which is used to store the roaming profile.
Note: Ensure the user account has full control permission of the shared
folder.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Larry,
I have done a lot of peer-to-peer networking and I've worked with UNIX
client-server networks a little, but I'm a bit new to Windows/SBS
client-server networks. Consequently, I did not know that there was a
wizard to setup Folder Redirection. Subsequent to your response, I
found it and ran it. I also found a typo (in the server name) in the
manually configured settings I had previously created. When users log
off and log back on again we'll see how successful the procedure was.
Some of the workstations were added using the wizards and the web site,
others were added using the My Computer network properties thing. The
mixed bunch is all Windows XP Professional. I've been told that Windows
Vista has to be added to SBS 2K3 using the latter method. True?
I've got a couple of Vista laptops which need to be upgraded from Vista
Home (Premium) and joined to the domain also.
Where do I configure Roaming Profiles?
Thanks,
Fred

Hi Fred:
Any reason why you did not use the wizard designed for this purpose?
It is in the backup section of Server Management.
Were the workstations added to the SBS domain using Add a User Wizard,
joined with /connectcomputer?
