From the post, I understand you have problem about access WSS documentlibrary via UNC path.

An issue I'm not clear about ... if you access a WSS (2 or 3) document
library using a UNC path, as in "\\companyweb\General Documents", what
operations you perform there can cause problems with the Sharepoint
database (MSDE or SQL)? For instance:
Does deleting, moving or renaming a file cause an issue?
How do changes affect versioning and checked out files?
