RE: ISA 2004 Sp3 Issues

Hello Joel,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you get "502 Proxy Error.
The request is not supported. (50)" when you access some web site after you
install ISA server 2004 sp3. If I have misunderstood the problem, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

Some web servers will return compressed content (gzip) even though IE
client did not request it.

There was a check introduced in SP3 which blocks (incorrectly) compressed
responses from web servers when compression was not requested and the
compression filters are disabled as ISA is not able to decompress the
response so this could bypass things like HTTP filter checks.

Please enable Compression Filter on ISA server 2004 to resolve this issue:

1. Please open ISA server 2004 management console

2. Expand to Configuration -> Add-Ins -> Web Filters Tab

3. Right click Compression Filter, select Enable.

4. Click Apply to save the configuration.

More information regarding HTTP compression:

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu (MSFT)
