Hello Lyle,
Thank you for your post. My name is Robbin Meng, and it is my pleasure to
work with you on this issue!
Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:
After you have moved your domain to SBS 2003 R2 recently and hosted mail
server on the Exchange, you would like to assign multiple email addresses
to one mailbox or public folder.
If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.
First of all, I would like to explain that since this is basically a
consulting issue and we can only provide some general suggestions about
consulting issue in news group. If you need other support channel, please
contact our CSS for more information. Thanks for your understanding.
Meanwhile, I still would like to provide my suggestions with you for your
reference:
Before we go further, I would like to confirm that:
1. when you say you want to use 3rd party mail solution to forward emails
to your Exchange server, do you mean downloading the POP3 mails from the
Internet and forward them to a Exchange user's mailbox that reside on the
Exchange server? If so, are you trying to use SBS 2003 POP3 connector to do
it?
2. If you are talking about POP3 connector, is the POP3 mailbox your ISP
provided a "Global mailbox" or "User mailbox"?
3. What's your meaning by forwarding "to one address and the someone sends
them to various people" ? what are the "various people"? Are they also
Exchange users that has the same domain recipient?(e.g.
QUOTE@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, and INFO@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx etc.)
Please let me know more detailed information about the mail flow you want
to design, thank you.
If the external Postini server provide POP3 mailbox, I suggest you
configure the POP3 connector (run CEICW in SBS) to download the emails and
deliver to a mail enabled public folder, then all users will see the emails
and can reply the emails if they like. About what's POP3 connector and how
to run CEICW to configure it, please see following information:
You can use the Microsoft Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes service in
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 to download e-mail messages
from your Internet service provider (ISP) and to deliver those messages.
The POP3 Connector uses the following process to deliver e-mail messages to
a user in your organization:
1. It establishes a connection to the remote POP3 server.
2. It downloads all the messages for that e-mail account to the Windows
Small Business Server-based Exchange server computer.
3. It moves those messages to the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
PickUp folder where the messages can be delivered to a user's mailbox.
Configure the for POP3 Connector Manager to retrieve mail from a global
mailbox or individual mailboxes and deliver that mail to the local Exchange
server mailbox. To configure these items, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Server Management.
2. Expand Advanced Management, and then click POP3 Connector Manager.
3. In the right pane, click Open POP3 Connector Manager.
