The drives are probably going into a backpanel 'frame' that will only allow
connection to one channel.
In general the idea of putting the 2nd array on the 2nd channel is desirable
but it is quite likely John cannot physically do this.
It sounds quite likely that the controller is reading the RAID config from
the new drives, rather than the existing. I _strongly_ recommend calling
Dell.

Yes you will need to go inside the server. On your Perc 4di you should see
2-SCSI connectors. One with a SCSI cable already attached to the existing
drives. You need to purchase another SCSI cable, connect it to the 2 new
drives.

Hi Allen
Yes we need two sepearte RAID1 arrays. How do I put the two new disk
on the second channel? If I insert them in the front slots of dell
server they end up in channel1. Do I need to open up server and
install disks there for channel 2?
Thanks

Hi
Yes the drives are there in RAID configuration utility that is where
we made RAID1 out of the two new disks. We have a dual channel raid
controller but the two new disks that we have added on the front of
dell server also end up on channel 1 in RAID configuration utility
like the previous two disks. Do these need to be on seperate channels?
Thanks

What do you see? Do you have a Dual Channel RAID Controller?

Hi
Our Dell Perc 4/Di had two disks in a RAID 1 configuration. Now we
have added two more disks and have made another RAID1 out of these
two. In Perc configuration old and new raid sets appear as two
logical
drives. However when I reboot the server it says 0 logical disks
found. The only way for me is to take out the two new disks and
reboot
and then the original logical disk appears and I can boot into
windows. What am I doing wrong and what is the correct way to add
another pair of disks in a RAID1 while there is another pair
already
in RAID1 on Perc 4 /Di?
Many Thanks
