Re: SBS NTBackup erroring

Hi Quatoria,

I am glad to know your issue is resolved.

By the way, In order to sharing our experience with the other users and
help them to search/find specific answers more efficiently in the future, I
would like to make a summary here:

Problem description:
NTbackup failed because of that the tape media library will not get ready
by itself after each backup while using Exabyte VXA-3 SCSI tape drive as
backup device

Cause:
RSM did not recognizing the media correctly

Resolution:
1. Click Start\Run and type notepad to open notepad.

2. Added following content to the notepad:

start /wait rsm.exe refresh /lf"Exabyte VXA-3 SCSI Tape Drive"
start /wait rsm.exe inventory /lf"Exabyte VXA-3 SCSI Tape Drive" /afull
sleep 60

3. Click File\Save as to save the content to a bat file.

4. Go to Control Pane\Scheduled Tasks, and click Add Scheduled Task.

5. Following the wizard and at the first stage click Browse to add the
batch file as a scheduled task before the back up work.

Thanks again for your time and cooperation.

Have a nice day! :-)

Best regards,

Gary Wang(MSFT)

| Hi Quatoria,
|
| Thanks for your update and confirmation.
|
| Also, may I know if there are any newest information?
|
| Please feel free to let us know if any further issue.
|
| Additionally, I suspect that the issue may due to that RSM did not
| recognizing the media correctly. So I suggestted the commands in the
batch
| file which are using the Rsm.exe refresh command to help recognize
changed
| media. By this way, we can force the RSM to actually recognize the media
| before running the scheduled backup job. However, for the 0x1 error, we
may
| need more information to identify it as I mentioned in my previous reply.
|
| Thanks again.

| Hi guys.
|
| Did some checking this morning and it is working. Seven days and still
| going strong. So that is the seven day tap cycle completed and no
| failures.
|
| :)
|
| So I will do a final check after this weekend as it will have to suffer
| no support of any kind on saturday. So no one can be interfering or
| helping it along in secret and it will stand and fall on it's own
| merits.
|
| So I will post on Monday and see how it goes.
|
| It is still however reporting 0x1, even though it also says it ran. Not
| sure what that could mean??
|
| I have also left the services on manual as I read a few posts on this
| forum mentioning that, confirmation could be good.
|
| Watch this space.
