Re: No inbound email from external domains -- please help!

Thanks Cliff...I have contacted Comcast and (of course) their level 1 support couldn't answer the question and they wouldn't let little 'ol me talk to level 3 support. But they opened a ticket and said they'd respond within 72 hours (or was that 72 days?) ;-)

It is a residential account, and they did put it in an "abuse" state several years ago, but they got that straightened out, and I remember that even when that happened, I still received email fine, I just couldn't send for a few days while we talked about it.

If I find out more, I'll post. Still attempting to get it done with other ports.

How are you connected to the internet? Most basic DSL or cable gateways have some basic routing capabilities built-in, if undocumented. That device may have been misconfigured, corrupted, or just plain failing.

Or as previously stated, it is the ISP actively blocking port 25, which I've seen them do if they thing abuse of terms is happening. Are you running on a residential account, or business account?

I can telnet the SMTP server internally, get a response

I don't know how to verify router forwarding all 25 request to wan side.
There is no router but the SBS box. It is a 2 nic setup. I reran the CEICW
just to try to clear out any garbage, and it is still not working.

Reading through the google groups link you sent now.

Hi Skip:

Was not particularly pointing at you with the comment about disclosing the
info needed, but you would be amazed at what gets XXXXX'd out when people
request help in this space.

Your dns records look ok. Ok, except for the error that the tool cannot
reach your mail server. We already know that. :-)

Your server is not responding to any telnet requests. My guess is that
your router took a hit. But it could be the isp. I can't reach your
server on port 25 from the internet. From your previous comments, it
appears that you can from inside? telnet servername 25 or telnet
ipaddress 25 produces a response?

do verify that the router is forwarding all 25 request to the wan facing
side of your SBS, and if you can, either replace the router for a test or
connect your inet connection to the second nic of your SBS, assuming a two
nic configuration. And while unlikely, verify that the wan facing nic and
the inside port on the router are still in the same subnet.

There is a web site www.shean.com. It appears to be hosted on the same
server and is reachable, so your inet connection is live.

SMTP service is running...telnet gets response. Don't know how to tell
if it is falling to X400, but looks ok.

Trying to reach comcast to verify ports open, but it's been open for 3
years, so it would be a big surprise if they changed...

Inbound *and* outbound is broken?!?!?

1) check and make sure the smtpsvc is running? Telnet to port 25 from
inside the LAN to ensure it is responding. I know you said domain
emails are working, but maybe it is falling back to x400...

2) Inbound and outbound are usually very separate things in exchange so
to have them both failing makes me think it isn't SBS. Check your
router. Check with your ISP, did they block traffic on port 25?

SBS2003 SP2.

Been up and workin' fine for literally 2+ years. All of a sudden, no
external email is being received, and outbound mail is queuing.

Internal email to and from other domain users works FINE.

I've searched the KB's as hard as I can for anything like this, but
really don't know where to begin. Please HELP!
