Re: dns configuration

Hi

We need to be able to access another companies SAP and intranet systems in
France and do not intend to browse to their network neighborhood

We have our own internet connection, and also a leased line to our German
office who has connections to our other 40 offices including this office in
France.

The problem we have is that they may send us a link to a file such as
http://xxxxx.xx.fr and our system will think it is an internet address and
try to conect. We need to match an IP address to this name and our router
will then recognise it as a private IP address that must be routed over the
leased line.

hope this helps
Andrew

Hi Andy:

Got to ask what by what method and for what purpose you will connect to
these remote servers, or they to you?

And which direction you desire the connection to be made? On all servers to
all other servers all the time? Or all workstations on every LAN connected
to every server in the list all the time? Or??

Are you trying to browse, as in network neighborhood, map a drive by
\\server name\share name?

And once the desired system is reachable, what do you intend to do there?

I might suggest RDP connections over MS or hardware VPNs, or for incoming to
your SBS RWW. If you can get matching or compatible hardware at each site
you could setup router to router VPN's.

Hello

not sure if this is a DNS setting. We have several offices connected by
leased lines, but we want to able to reach them by the server names they
give
us. When we try this at the moment it fails because a connection will be
attempted by the internet. We want to be able to convert the name entered
by the client into the correct IP address, it will then be handled by our
router correctly and the correct server reached. how do I do this - and
please keep it simple !
