Re: FTP only works from one network computer

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

'opening' ports 20/21 on ISA is useless as far as FTP from behind ISA is
concerned.

You need to look at ISA monitoring to see which rule is stopping the traffic
(while a request is being made) and _probably_ adjust the 'FTP Read Only'
bit for that rule.

Reading the thread I'd suggest YES, REMOVE ISA. You don't understand it and
don't wish to. Put together a test system with ISA and learn how to use THIS
MOST POWERFUL TOOL. I suspect that the modifications you are making are
making bl00dy great holes in it anyway, may as well not have it.

The 'quick and dirty' answer to your question (and I'm fairly sure this is
what you want) is to go into the ISA console and rt-clk each rule, if the
rule has an FTP component the option to 'Configure FTP' will be available,
turn off the Read Only option for all rules which have an FTP component.

The problem is between the keyboard and the chair.

The VPN question suggests you have more 'lower level' problems, maybe you
need someone more familiar with SBS to look at the system for you.

SBS2003 SP2 - all service packs and updates installed.

WEB Proxy (?) blocks all FTP access - except for one computer that DOES
have
FTP up/download.
In ISA, ports 20 and 21 are open but this makes no difference. Opening
ports
for applications does not change anything. (Reboots of server do not fix
this). Firewall client is on all computers.

AVG7 could do updates (Administrator authentication required for Proxy)
but
now AVG8 cannot! But does update if ISA etc is bypassed with a wireless
connection through the router.

WEB Proxy service - can't be stopped. It just breaks and server has to be
rebooted.

What's the answer to this Proxy issue ?

Is there an alternative firewall that we could use ? Every day is a battle
with SBS2003. It would be nice to have a firewall that is simple to use
and
maintain - this would eliminate a major hassle with SBS2003. And is this
connected to VPN access ?
VPN connections always stop working once people start using the server
(internally).
