Hello David,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand this issue is: the ESENT 215 error appeared on SBS Server performance report. If I have
misunderstood your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:
I. Based on my experience, DHCP database and WINS service also uses ESENT. Please make sure that Anti-virus tools are not
scanning the DHCP, WINS database. To do so, exclude them from scanning:
%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WINS
%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\Dhcp
II. Disable the Indexing option on the WINS/DHCP folders above.
Note: when the index service is started, all folders will have the checkbox "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder."
Make sure this is unchecked on the DHCP/WINS folder and all subfolders by
1. Going to the DHCP or WINS folders properties
%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WINS
%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\Dhcp
2. On the General tab clicked Advanced
3. Uncheck "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder."
III. Technical speaking, if the NTBACKUP failed, considering the ESENT 215 event, this issue may occur if Sqlvdi.dll file that has been
unregistered.
To resolve this issue, please follow these steps first:
1. Stop all SQL Server services in services.msc.
2. Click Start, click Run, type Regsvr32 <Path>\SQLVDI.DLL in the Open box, and then click OK. The default path of the Sqlvdi.dll file is C:
\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\COM.
3. Restart all SQL Server services again.
4. Check whether the problem persists.
More info, please refer to:

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Please send the performance report to me.
2. Gather MPS network report on SBS:
a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd915706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.
c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will take 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hope this helps, if you need more help, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu (MSFT)
