Re: Printing from Laptops Connected Remotely

Hi David:

Since you have posted this issue before, can you please clarify why you use two different connections instead of the RWW to the TS and either RWW to OWA or RDC over HTTP, (now called Outlook Anywhere) for mail? These connections are more secure, and less problems for both the users and to administer.

If you have a TS, there is no reason for any of your company docs to live on the remote computers, unless you have real connectivity problems and your users absolutely must work off line. Plus you will find that Access works much, much better in a TS session than over a VPN, plus it is 1000's of times more secure.

In addition, the TS will give you access to your mail via outlook installed on the TS.

There is a trick to installing MS Office apps on the TS, but there are KB articles for it.

As for the printers, if there is a matching driver and printer name on the TS as on the local computer, the print process will default to the default printer on the remote workstation. When there are shared printers on the network, everyone sees all the shared printer, by design.

The printer issue can be resolved once you have

I need to do some reading!

1) I have a configuration with two servers. One Win2003SBS R2 and one Win2003Std R2 which are connected at the LAN (on a switch) and network (on an internet router) ports. Remote users connect to the SBS via the VPN Connectoid to synchronise their My Docs &Outlook and to the Std via TS to run a database application within their TS desktop session. I want to enable them to access a printer locally attached to their laptop from either of the sessions.

2) An issue that I do have is that when a remote laptop connects it picks up the shared printers on the SBS and these then appear in the TS Server Printers and Faxes folder as Printer_Name on Server_Name (from Laptop_Name) in session xx. This muddies the waters horribly when 10 laptops connect and each find all eight printers on the SBS! Is there anyway of preventing these printers from appearing?
