RE: Windoes Update Not Working in SBS2003

Hello,

Thank you for your post.
My name is Gary Wang, and it is my pleasure to work with you on this issue!
Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:

When you run Windows update on your SBS 2003 server, it failed with error
0x80190193.

If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.

Suggestion :
==============
The error 0x80190193 is translated to HTTP 403. This is an authentication
failure issue.

If you have installed ISA 2004 on your SBS server, please notice that
Windows Update is performed via the permission of current log user,
normally it will be administrator. However, Automatically Update will go as
SYSTEM account, which will not have sufficient permission to pass through
ISA control. In ISA 2004, a rule named with "SBS Localhost Access rule"
will be created after CEICW wizard of SBS is run. This rule will allow
anonymous access from SBS server to external resource on HTTP and HTTPS
traffic, which will allow Automatic Update from SBS server to Windows
Update website. The issue may due to that the rule is deleted by
accidently, or CEICW wizard is not ran correctly. I would like to suggest
that you check the following steps:

1. Rerun the CEICW wizard and make sure this rule is created.

2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

2. Manually create an ISA rule to allow HTTP/HTTPS traffic from SBS server
to Windows Update for anonymous access.

or Version 6 Web site through a server that is running ISA Server
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;885819

3. Run the command: proxycfg -d on SBS server, then check it again.

Hope it helps.

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

Information Need
==============
1. Check event viewer for related information, if there are any, please
help save it to *.evt and send to me.
2. Please help to capture the exact symptom when the error occurs, save it
to *.jpg files and send to me.
3. Gather the WindowsUpdate.log under %windir% and send to me.
4. Please help to gather network report as below:

a. Download MPSReport Network Edition at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
b. Try to access Windows Update website. When the error occurs, double
click MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE to generate reports.
c. Wait for reports generate complete, send the cab file under
%windir%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\cab to me.

5. Does this issue happens on internal clients?
