Re: Moving to SMTP Email Connection

Hi
1. Although Symantec is installed, the protection is disabled, as I just use to to run scans every now and again.
2. Microsoft Firewall is installed, but this is tied into the Routing and Remote Access service, so I can't disable it. I can't see how I can configure it to ensure port 25 isn't blocked as it won't let me in via the control panel.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for sending me the MPS report files though they are indeed very big
in size.
After checking the related logs, I found the following related error
messages:

Description:
The description for Event ID ( 15105 ) in Source ( Microsoft Firewall )

information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote

description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is
part of the event: 66.98.238.101.
Also, from system information, found:
1. Microsoft firewall is open and running;
2. Symantec software is running;
3. 23/05/2008 12:17 Microsoft Exchange Server Faulting application
contentfilter.dll, version 6.5.7638.1, stamp 430e739c, faulting module

version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault address
0x0121f1ca.

To continue troubleshoot this issue, please consider the following
suggestions:
1. Disable/uninstall Symantec Corporate Edition Anti Virus programs
Based on research and experience, anti-virus and anti-spam software may
block related protocol and ports.
Installing Symantec or Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition on mail servers
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2004062508305148
?Open&dtype=corp&tdir=&tpre=&src=ent_tutweb_nam
WARNING: If you configure Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition 9.x as a
client on a Microsoft Exchange server or any SMTP server, be sure not to
install Internet E-Mail Auto-Protect. This feature monitors the standard
mail ports, and can cause performance degradation or failure if installed
on mail servers.
2. Disable Microsoft firewall service;
By default, if ISA server is installed on the SBS server, we do not
recommend user running Microsoft firewall service, also, please check if
any other firewall is running on and block SMTP 25 from telent.
3. Update the NIC driver;
Please check if there is any new driver for your NIC adapter and update to
the latest version.
Hope this helps.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.
Thank you for your time and cooperation!
Sincerely,

Hi Neil ,
Thanks for your prompt response.
Besides the Telnet error, can that Exchange server send/receive internal
and external email normally now?
Please take your time and try the remaining steps. If the issue persists
after performing all the steps, please send the required MPS report to me
for further research.
I appreciate your time and efforts.
Best regards,
