Hi,
To be honest, you're better off leaving server builds to the experts. If you DO build your own, make sure you only use server grade hardware. For example, the hard drives you get at your local computer shop just ain't good enough. Get yourself a branded server if you value your data and availability. Like SG said, if it doesn't use RAID, it isn't a server!

Well, maybe I should just build my own. I've built 3 desktops before without a problem. Hopefully a server won't be much different. I created a Newegg wishlist. You can view it via this link:

Also, I've never done any Raid stuff. Is this what I need?...

I plan on buying SBS 2003 with Software Assurance so I can upgrade to 2008 when it comes out. Where do I buy this, though? I can't get the Software Assurance part at Newegg can I???
Thanks for the help so far everyone!!!

Well, it'll work but if you can stretch to it, consider going for a 64 bit capable CPU (Xeon etc), you definitely want to have at least a RAID 1 config with a dedicated RAID controller (don't use the onboard or software if you can help it). 2GB RAM is 'OK' but it would be better if you had 3 or 4 GB. The RD 1000 is OK but you ideally need at least 5 disks for a decent rotation and off site storage. Can you wait 'till SBS 2008 comes out in a couple of months - seems a shame to buy 2003 now when the new arrival is imminent!
Regards Colin.
"Todd" <Todd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23YmplUNvIHA.5096@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxHi all! I'm new to servers and wanted some quick advice on my new system. I plan on using the server for 5 computers and want to accomplish these tasks:
1. share files locally
2. allow remote access to files
3. sync Outlook
4. allow remote access to an Access database (probably 2 connections at a time max)
This is the server I was considering at Dell. Adequate? Thanks!
