I've now managed to perform the steps you requested below, and monitoring
is working as expected but integrated setup still drops out at the same
point, as per the original logs.

| Hi Tim,
|
| Thanks for your updates and efforts.
|
| I have performed more search about your newest logs, it seems that
| C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
| Server\Monitoring\MSDE\Setup\SqlRun.cab is corrupt. I would like to
suggest
| that you check the below before run my previous suggestion:
|
| 1. Deleted the files from the %temp% directory.
| 2. Renamed C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
| Server\Monitoring\MSDE\Setup or replace with files from SBS install CD
3(I
| am not sure the path in R2 DVD) 's \SBS\MONITOR\MSDE\Setup folder.
| 3. Rerun setup as a test.
|
| Also, the issue may occurs when you are using corrupt installation media.
| If possible, you may like to re-burn another disc as a test.
|
| And if there are any further support is needed, please feel free to
contact
| me, I am glad to provide further assistance.
|
| Hope it helps and have a nice day.
|
| Thanks.
|
| Best regards,

| | I'm not sure whether the file really is corrupt or whether the error is
| | symptomatic of something else. From memory sbsmonitoring uses msde 2000
| | SP3. Should I download and try again or is there something else I
should
| | try first. Although the original install was from 2003 RTM media as a
| | Microsoft partner I have an R2 DVD - is the sql install media located
on

| |
| | Oh, and thanks for your help so far BTW. Often all it needs is a
guiding
| | hand. I'm pretty self sufficient with desktops - generally with those
the
| | quickest way to fix problems is to re-load a post installation and
setup
| | disk image - servers however need a bit more TLC!

| | | I'll try that - the data directory is actually in f:\program
files\....
| | so
| | | I'll modify the command line accordingly. I keep all my databases,
| | exchange
| | | and user folders on a separate spindle - it has saved me once when
the
| | boot
| | | drive failed - I just had to re-install the c:\ drive using active

| came
| | | back on line in exactly the same state as when the drive failed. I
have
| a
| | | backup of the database on tape so if copying the data across doesn't
| | help,
| | | I can restore the data from Sunday (which is when I uninstalled the
| | | instance). I have some desktop support issues to deal with, as soon
as
| | I'm
| | | done I'll attempt the database reinstall and report back.
| | |
| | | I spent ages searching the knowledgebase to try to find the
information
| | | you've posted below - I should have asked in the forums earlier!

| | | | Hello Tim,
| | | |
| | | | Thanks for your information.
| | | |
| | | | After review your description and logs, I would like to suggest
that
| | you
| | | | reinstall the Monitoring database before going further. Please run
| the
| | | | following commands to reinstall (check paths):
| | | |
| | | | 1) Open a command line, run the following command:
| | | |
| | | | C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
| | | | Server\Monitoring\msde\setup.exe blanksapwd=1 /i "C:\Program
| | | | Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
| | | | Server\Monitoring\msde\setup\SqlRun15.msi"
| INSTANCENAME="SBSMonitoring"
| | | | DATADIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\"
| TARGETDIR="C:\Program
| | | | Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" /L*v "C:\MSDE_SBSMonitoring.log"
| | | |
| | | | 2) If you have backup your old SBSmonitoring database, please copy
| the
| | | | database from the backup DATA to the new C:\Microsoft SQL
| | | | Server\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING\Data folder.
| | | | 3) Start the MSSQL$SBSMONITORING service.
| | | | 4) Attach the backup SBSMONITORING Database (Again, check
| | | | paths/domains/etc) (Press enter after each line):
| | | |
| | | | osql -S servername\sbsmonitoring -E
| | | | EXEC sp_attach_db @dbname = 'SBSMONITORING', @filename1 =
| | | | 'C:\MicrosoftSQLServer\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING\Data\SBSMONITORING.mdf',
| | | | @filename2 = 'C:\Microsoft SQL
| | | | Server\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING\Data\SBSMONITORING_log.LDF'
| | | |
| | | | go
| | | |
| | | | 5) Remain in OSQL, add the proper login, again, check the domain:
| | | |
| | | | sp_grantlogin 'DOMAIN\sbs report users'
| | | | go
| | | |
| | | | 6) Install the Monitoring and Report component again.
| | | |
| | | | Hope it helps.
| | | |
| | | | Thanks.
| | | |
