RE: Problems with Permissions

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for your update and efforts.

For the "Network Configuration Wizard" not accessible issue, please check
the following:

1. Open IIS, navigate to Web Sites\ConnectComputer, right click it and
choose Properties.
2. Click on Directory Security tab, then click Edit under the
"Authentication and access control" option, make sure the checkbox of
"Enable anonymous access" is checked.
3. Click on the Edit under "IP address and domain name restriction", make
sure you have granted proper permission to the current IP you are using.
4. Add the http://server.e-techsupport.local/ to your IE's trust site. To
add a website to the trusted zone list in Internet Explorer. Please follow
the steps below:

a. Click the Start Button, type inetcpl.cpl in the Start Run box, and then
press Enter.
b. On the Security tab, click "Trusted sites" and then click "Default
Level".
c. Click Sites, type the URL of the site
<http://server.e-techsupport.local/> in the "Add this Web site to the zone"
box, uncheck the "Require server verification" option .

5. Check whether it can be access again.

The DHCP not working properly issue may due to DNS not correctly
configured. Please check the following:

1. Run the command: ipconfig /all on SBS server, make sure both internal
NIC and external NIC are using the internal NIC's IP as DNS server.
2. Open Start\Administrative Tools\DNS.
3. Make sure your server's FQDN have correct DNS records.
4. Right click on the server's name, choose Properties, then navigate to
Forwarders tab, make sure the two ISP's DNS server IP is listed there.
5. If possible, change the Linksys wireless router to another switch as a
test.
6. Re-run CEICW carefully following my previous reply again.

About the wireless router, I think Linksys's suggest may right because they
should be better understanding their product. Also, please double confirm
with them that your configuration and the topology are correct.

If the problems still persists, please check event viewer for related
information, if there are any, please help save it to *.evt and send to me.

| Since I last exchanged email messages with you, I have made some progress
| but I'm still experiencing a few problems. I'll try to explain what I've
| done and the progress I have made so far, and I will also outline the
| issues that I am still experiencing.

| In my last email to you I indicated that I was in the process of
| reinstalling Windows Small Business Server 2003 - this has now been
| completed and I followed the instructions to the letter in order to
| configure the server for Internet access. The good news is I now have
| Internet and some Network access on the server, which is certainly an
| improvement on my previous configurations. At the moment I can access the
| Internet just fine, and I can also open up the internal SBS 2003 home
page
| by navigating to: http://server.e-techsupport.local/ but I am still
| experiencing one or two problems when I try to navigate further using the
| links on this Internal website.
|
| If I click the first link 'My Company's Internal Website', the page loads
| without any problems, if I click the second link 'Network Configuration
| Link' I receive a 'The page cannot be displayed' error message, at the
| bottom of the page it says 'Error Code: 403 Forbidden. The server denied
| the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). Contact the server
| administrator. (12202).

| If I click the third link on the SBS home page 'Remote Web Workplace'
| initially I receive the following error message: There is a problem with
| this website's security certificate' the options available to me from
this
| page are: 1) Click here to close this webpage. 2) Continue to this
webpage
| (not recommended) or 3) More information. If I select option 2) Continue
to
| this website (not recommended), the page does display but with the
| following errors: The URL box at the top of the browser displays the
| website URL but coloured in red and next to the URL is another red box
| which says 'Certificate error'. Also at the very top of the webpage I
have
| an error message where I often see messages asking me to install Active X
| controls, but this message reads: 'To help protect your security,
Internet
| Explorer has blocked this website from displaying content with security
| certificate errors. Click here for options'. If I click the red box next
to
| the URL which says 'Certificate error', and then select 'View
Certificates'
| and 'Install Certificates', then follow the wizard to install the
| certificate, I receive a message that says the 'Import was successful'.
| Click OK, navigate to the home page again:
| http://server.e-techsupport.local/ and select 'Remote Web Workplace', the
| page displays without any certificate errors - which is what I would
| expect, but often this certificate error message will reappear later when
I
| navigate to that link again, or if I reboot the server - sometimes by
| installing the certificate it will resolve the problem but this seems to
be
| only temporary.

| Also I seem to have a problem with DHCP on the server, by navigating to
| 'Control Panel' > 'Administrative Tools' > and clicking the DHCP icon,
when
| DHCP opens, it lists the DHCP server but says it's 'Not connected',
however
| when I click on this server within the DHCP control panel, the DHCP
server
| starts without any further interaction, and it appears to continue
running
| for as long as I have the DHCP window open but the moment I close it, and
| reopen it again, it says 'Not Connected'. When I navigate to 'Control
| Panel' > 'Administrative Tools' > 'Services' and check the status for
'DHCP
| Client' and 'DHCP Server' both are listed as 'Started' with Startup Type
| set to 'Automatic' but even when I right-click these services and select
| Restart, it makes no difference - the DHCP window has to be open before
the
| service will run.
|
| I believe this issue with the DHCP server is also responsible for the
lack
| of connectivity I have from the Windows XP machine also, as I am unable
to
| join that machine to the SBS 2003 domain. I have created a User Account
and
| Computer using the Server Management Console but when I Enable the
Network
| Connection on the XP machine, it takes a while to obtain an IP address,
but
| when it does it shows 'Limited or No Connectivity' with a yellow symbol
| covering the network icon in the taskbar. I have also tried to connect
| Wirelessly from the XP machine but again I receive exactly the same error.
|
| I feel sure that the problem I have with DHCP on the server is causing
this
| problem but I really have no idea how to fix it. I have already
uninstalled
| DHCP and reinstalled it but that made no difference, and I have also
| disabled DHCP within the Linksys Router, so I am sure there is no
conflict
| there.
|
| One other point that I should mention, and I'm not sure if this matters
but
| in your previous response you gave a list of instructions for me to carry
| out, and one of those was to configure the Router as a Wireless Access
| Point. I did check through all of the menu options on the Router's
webpage
| but I was unable to find anything relating to setting the Router as a
| Wireless Access Point. so I went to Linksys website and spoke online to
one
| of their support technicians, I explained that a Microsoft Technician has
| asked me to configure the Router as a Wireless Access Point but he told
me
| this was not necessary to do as it would only allow one XP machine to
| connect to the server, and his advice was to leave it set up as a Router,
| which I have done. If you believe this advice was wrong, can you kindly
| explain why so I can go back to Linksys and try to get further assistance
| with this configuration.

| Again, I sincerely appologise for the very long email message but I did
| want to explain everything that was happening in the hope it would give
you
| a better understanding of where the problems might be originating from.
If
| you can see something that perhaps I have overlooked, I would of course
be
| incredibly appreciative and grateful.

| | | | | I should explain that since I posted that message a few days ago,

| | | | | attempted countless different scenarios to try and fix the
problem,

| | | | | far without any success, and I may have actually made things
worse.

| | | | | currently stands the SBS 2003 machine is switched off and I'm

| | | | | directly to the internet through my XP Professional machine -I

| | | | | culprit and no doubt when I do finally get everything up and

| | | | | Just to give you a broad background of the problems I seem to be
| | | | | experiencing, what I am trying to do is set up the SBS machine
with
| | | only
| | | | | one XP Pro machine connected at the moment, once I have that
| | configured
| | | | and
| | | | | working correctly I intend to connect a handful of other XP Pro
| | | machines
| | | | | and possibly even one or two Apple Mac computers to the network,
| but
| | | all
| | | | of
| | | | | that is for later - right now my only concern is to get the SBS
and
| | one
| | | | XP
| | | | | Pro machine talking to each other.
| | | | |
| | | | | I have a broadband Internet connection through my ISP with a
static
| | IP
| | | | | address, I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router, which I
| intend
| | | to
| | | | | use for the client machines to connect to the Internet through a
| | | wireless
| | | | | connection, but at the moment I am content to connect this XP Pro
| box
| | | to
| | | | | the router with a network cable. On the back of the router, there
| are
| | 4
| | | | | network cable ports and one Internet port, in the SBS machine I
| have
| | | two
| | | | | RJ-45 NIC's. And I also have a broadband modem provided by my ISP.

| | | | | No matter how I try to configure everything, I seem to have a
whole
| | | range
| | | | | of different outcomes except the one I want. Obviously the ideal
| | | solution
| | | | | would be to have the SBS machine set up and configured for
network
| | | access
| | | | | and Internet access, with each client machine connecting through
| the
| | | SBS
| | | | | machine for network & Internet access, but I seem to get Internet
| | | access
| | | | on
| | | | | the Server and no network access, Internet access on the Server
and
| | XP
| | | | Pro
| | | | | box but no network access, network connectivity from the Server
to
| | the
| | | XP
| | | | | Pro box but not the other way around ... and just about anything
| else
| | | you
| | | | | could imagine except what I really want.

| | | | | Although I maybe wrong in my assumptions, I feel sure the problem
| | lies
| | | | | either somewhere with the way I have the Router connected and
| | | configured
| | | | or
| | | | | the way I have assigned IP addresses to the network cards and
| perhaps

| | | | | have included too much information below, but I would much rather
| you

| | | | | how I have everything configured from the start, and to spend a
| | | | | considerable time checking things only to find I have made a
simple
