Re: Does SBS 2003 SP2 media exist?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I would like to do R2, but I was sent SBS Standard R2 CDs when we're running SBS Premium . . . so I want to forego R2 for now and instead install Windows Server 2003 on a SBS 2003 SPA machine. Is this ok?

(there is no SBS2003 SP2)

You want SBS SP1 in it's entirety (or SBS R2 - which includes that and more), and then Windows Server 2003 SP2. That, plus some MU updates constitites a fully up-to-date SBS.

Is it ok to install WS2003 SP2 on a SBS 2003 server (instead of waiting for SBS SP2)?

SBS 2003 R2 disk set has Windows Server 2003 SP1. Windows Server 2003 SP2 will need to be applied seperately. I don't believe there's an SBS disk set with both SBS R2 *and* WS 2003 SP2.

(there is no SBS2003 SP2)

The lastest copy I have does not.

But I haven't ordered any media lately, so newer ones might.

I have original SBS media (pre sp1), so when using NTBACKUP I'd have
to install SBS, install SP1, install SP2 then restore the server.
PITA.

1. Does SBS 2003 SP2 media exist?
2. If it did, would a fresh install allow me to go right to
NTBACKUP? (based on docs it seems plausable)

Thanks,

Roveer

If you are doing a whole server recovery, you can skip the SBS SP1
and install Windows SP2. Then do your restore.
