Microsoft had the same issue with SP2, thought it would have compensated. There maybe IT bods that may have done the same as OEMs created an Intel image onto an AMD.

It's next to impossible for Microsoft to set up a lab where they could test every single configuration out there
That's why they have beta testers! Several thousand. And for whatever reason this one didn't hit the right combo
But its clear this morning that the "XP SP3 Glitch So Far Limited To HP"
http://www.crn.com/software/207602807 and the fix was well documented in 24 hours after release
I'm not knocking any individual, but I want folks to be very careful of posting "the sky is falling" type posts
No one's lost data, no one's machine has become a paperweight
Windows Server 2003 SP2 had a much broader affect on SBS and it took much longer to figure out

Hey Cris dont knock the original OP.... some individuals may not be upto speed as 'regular' NG buddies. Work / family commitments etc.
I am very grateful for this post.. yes I test but then I wouldn't of thought of testing Intel vs AMD, also one site maybe Intel and SP3 works fine so why shouldn't it roll out to another site with AMD..
Thanks for the post Holz...
For my 2 cents it is SP3 fault, it should have been tested with this scenario i.e OEM installs and AMD. How could an OEM install with AMD get missed in testing.... :-)

I think you may be over exaggerating the issues surrounding SP3
The real issue is not the service pack, but rather the idiot OEMs who used the same image for intel machines as they did for AMD machines. This is not an issue with the service pack
And the fix is pretty well documented
I don't have OEM machines, but I do have an AMD based machine. I've been beta testing since Beta 1 release and only filed 1 bug. That bug was not present in the RTM version.
So rather than push the panic button...as always...test before widely deploying

Don't rush to install. there are too many issues.
We had some issues with AMD processors, we found out later that it is a
problem. Lucky for us we have images so we can restore.
You might want to check the XP NG before you try.
