This is because the office copy of Windows has to know how to format
the print job before it can send it to the printer.

There are two ways to make it work that I know of:

Install a pdf writer on your server and print to a pdf file and then
copy that file back to your local computer

Presuming you mean workstation in this context. That's an excellent idea...
I should've suggested it.

Install the local (remote) printer on the office computer

Yep....

or Terminal
Server.

Ah. If it's a TS box, never do that. That's a really good way to end up with
a busted terminal server. You can get away with it on workstations,
generally - but on TS, should be avoided like the plague.

..See http://www.sessioncomputing.com/printing.htm for more info.

Note you want to be careful with this. Do Not install the complete
DVD full of multifunction applications on the office computer if you
have a MFP at the remote location. Look for Universal Print Drivers.

Or standalone PCL drivers.

And note that some USB printers will only work if you first introduce
them physically to the office computer.

Although you can generally set up a manually configured printer using an LPT
port and the standalone printer driver - doesn't have to be USB - and the
remote/redirected printer may work then.

So you would have to carry
them into the office, follow the mfg. instructions to set them up,
then carry them back to the remote location.

Also, there are third party apps that will manage remote printers,
but they are usually overkill for this.

If you do have TS, check out ScrewDriver from www.tricerat.com - it's
absolutely awesome.

Hello Everybody,

While logged into a desktop (WinXP SP2) at the office using RWW (SBS
2003), I want to print to my local printer at home.

I have clicked on "Optional Settings" and checked the "Enable ...
local printer" option.

When I open Microsoft Word on the office desktop (via RWW) and click
"File" "Print", my local printer at home is NOT listed.

How do I get my documents to print locally?

Thanks
Fred
