Nothing changes on servers (that we are aware of), but the backups will
start failing. We look after many servers and there is just no way that we
will pay microsoft support services everytime the backups fail. The usual
"solutions" like re-register these dlls have never worked on any server we
tried the solution on. The other "good" solution of check your sql user name
has never been found to be of aby use on any server we have had to deal with
either.
so, the recourse is to remove that sbs backup component together with the
vss culprits and re-install them.
this is the same approach as you would use when your sbsmonitoring is
affected by something, or when your wss is not working correctly, i.e. you
remove the component and re-install it.
The SBS backup "component" is not at fault (all it does is launch NTBackup), so removing and reinstalling it would not help you.
NTBackup and VSS are core parts of the Windows Server OS, and not SBS-specific components. AFAIK, there is no way to remove/reinstall them, short of a Windows Server repair install, which is overly drastic.
If you post full error messages, error log entries, pertinent details of your setup and diagnostic steps carried out so far, we can try to help you resolve those.
