Either way will work. But if you really want to impress and score some bonus
points offer him my suggestion. Knowing the have the whole website dedicated
to deelopment will impress him. Plus it looks better and is easier to
administer IMHO.

I think it is a typical empire build for job security but he isn't thinking
it through.
He wants to have his own little private area where his developers can
share
information on the current project. I will create a sub-site and let him
see
it.
Thanks for oyur input.

You'd have to go to the site configuration and there is a link where you
set up the users to that site
So they don't care what version of Sharepoint??? Are they just wanting
something as a team site for version control of their programming work??

They are devloping for XP, Vista and Server 2003/2008.
The problem for meis convincing the manager that he doesn't need a whole
new
server to have a restricted webpage within our existing SharePoint.
now that you have said it is possible i will push it through. Thanks
Cris.
how do i restrict access to the subsites?

You can create subsites within Companyweb and restrict who has access
Are they wanting to develop for Windows Sharepoint Services which is
what comes with SBS or Sharepoint Portal Server which is a whole other
animal?

I have a development team and the manager is adamant that he have his
own
SharePoint site.
Currently the one that came with SBS is not good enough for him, I
guess.
So I have loaded an old P3 1.2 Ghz 1GB RAM with Server 2003 and added
it to
the network.
I was just about to load in SharePoint when I thought I would get your
opinion first.
Is this a good idea?
is there a way to make a sub-level in the current SharePoint website
that
only the developers can get to?
Currently the Companyweb has the usual phone list, Pictures, a few
anouncements.
*shaking my head...why do they ask for these things. Kinda drives me
nuts
and they expect it to take a few minutes for each request
.
